Pendragon Riders Pass HB!

Three of our riders (along with others from Three Flags Pony Club) participated in the Pony Club HB level testing last Saturday, the 16th of August.

The HB covers horse management knowledge that demonstrates the rider's increasing competence at caring for and handling horses. This testing is taken, usually, as a preparation for the advanced riding C3 level.

Congratulations to Mikayla Cowette, Lila Eldridge, and Haley Strout, Pendragon's newest HB's! They will all be testing for their C3 in early September, too!

Pendragon MeCTA 2-Phase

Pendragon Farm kicked off its first annual Pendragon MeCTA 2-Phase on Tuesday, July 8th! Over three dozen riders in eight divisions participated in Dressage (held in the Indoor Arena) and Stadium Jumping (held on part of the outdoor jumping course).

We want to thank all our volunteers, officials, and competitors for making this first 2-Phase so much fun and making it run so smoothly. In particular, thanks go to our judges Stacia Russell (Dressage) and Hallie Bean (Stadium), and our TA, Gail McCormick.

The top riders from each division were:

Training: Lila Eldridge on Newman.
Novice: Kris Nicola on Keena.
Beginner Novice Junior: Ali Conroy on Semper Fi.
Beginner Novice Senior: Robin Miller on Dobby.
Elementary Junior (A): Amanda Snow on Superstar.
Elementary Junior (B): Jenna Jones on Aria.
Elementary Senior: Sharon Wilson-Baker on Amethyst Aspen.
Intro Junior: Dyanne Gillespie-Regan on Abi.

Low-Point Dressage: Dyanne Gillespie-Regan (30.9).

Arianna Bacon rode to a strong 2nd place in Elementary Junior.

Ali Conroy won blue in Beginner Novice Junior.

Somehow, the good riders all seem to start their turns even before the jump is over! Mikayla Cowette demonstrates.

Lila Eldridge on approach... on her way to victory at Training level.

Dyanne Gillespie-Regan takes a fence, takes first in Intro Junior, and takes the Dressage Low-Point for the day! Not a bad day's work.

Amanda Snow took home blue in Elementary Junior.

2008 USPC Dressage Rally

Thanks to some great last-minute volunteerism and Gwen and Ernie Hilton's "loan" of their beautiful Hyl-Tun Farm, a full 11 teams were able to compete in this year's Pony Club Dressage Rally.

The Overall Winner was the Epona Pony Club, a new team in the region that is clearly going to mean business! Well done, Epona!

Pictured at left: Epona team members Sarah, Margaret, Madeline, and Kate.

Pendragon Farm sent two teams to the rally, and one of them finished in third place overall! This placing was all the more impressive, because after the horse management phase the team was only in 7th place. Some awesome dressage scores helped bridge the gap up to 3rd. Congratulations!

Mikayla, Haley, Sarah, and Kristen. Warrior Princesses feared by all! Well, most.
Some, at least.

Ari keeps up the grin for her Turnout with Chewie.

Stable Managers are kept pretty busy. Here, Ana and Lila take advantage of a rare moment of peace.

Emily focuses on her dressage test in Ring 1. That's Emily "Tangible Intensity" Moore, to you!

Ana, Laura, Ari, and Jasmine pause for a pose with Lucky and Jess.

Colby competes in Zone 1, Region 2 against Bates, Bowdoin, Colby-Sawyer, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Mount Ida, University of Maine, University of New Hampshire and University of Vermont."

We look forward to working with all the riders on this competitive team, and wish them the best in their studies and shows. Welcome!

New Horses & Riders!

Congratulations to Hannah, Ariana, and Mikayla - they are riding new horses (new to them, that is), and have already started training for the upcoming eventing season. They'll be fun and exciting to watch this spring! Good luck!

Hannah on Jolly. Hannah is just starting out and has already entered a show!

Ari with Chewie. And Ari with Chewie's teeth. We think with Valentines Day coming up that Ari confused Cupid with Cuspid... Either way, a lovely couple.

Mikayla on River. Note the matching green boots and sweatshirt in her signature lime green - just one of the many reasons she's awesome!

Audrey Wins 2007 Cavalry Award

The US Pony Club web site describes this award: "Since 1989, the US Cavalry Association has sponsored a trophy awarded annually to current Pony Club members who are the highest placed Pony Club participants in two day or three day events recognized by the USEF." (See the full text).

This award is based on all 2 and 3 day events from the 2007 season, and only the top rated competitor in each region receives it. There is a plaque with the engraved names of winners that is kept at US Pony Club headquarters.

Congratulations, Audrey!

Audrey at Middleburg Horse Trials

Audrey Bean has recently moved up to the Intermediate Level, meaning she and her mount have qualified through several Novice to Preliminary Level competitions by having double clear rounds (clear in stadium and cross-country). It also means she is jumping fences that are almost four feet high (3'9")! At Middleburg (in Virginia), competitors at this level include Olympians, too!

Intermediate Level
Audrey Bean on Braveheart the Great... 7th Place!
When asked about her excellent result, Audrey said, "I pushed so hard out of the starting gate that I blew the zipper on my boot!" Since Audrey kind of has a "thing" about not changing gear during a season of competition, we're all wondering how she'll handle the blown zipper. Duct tape, anyone?

New Indoor Arena

This arena has been in the planning stages for quite some time - and it's finally becoming a reality! This structure is 72' x 176', and will be home not only to practice areas, but 2-phase competitions in the near future! Here are a couple of shots of the progress...

We have begun!

Roof is almost up, ready for the siding...

Now all we need is the floor!

First order of business - let's get ready to jump!
